Description its too bad my scanner doesn't pick up the subtle shades and colors in the actual work (it always looks so much brighter on the computer lol)

anyway I enjoyed the way my mermaid turned out so much that I wanted to do another Art Nouveau styled piece, this time with my own work rather than a rendition of someone else's, although you can still see it was highly influenced by Mucha.

the cat at the bottom was supposed to be a fox, but somewhere along the line it changed its mind lol. I spent quite a few hours on this today (like all day long, my hand is cramping!) but I'm SOOOO pleased with it!

Beautiful colors, wonderful details and the Art-Nouveau style just completes it entirely. I would use the critique-function, but I can't find a thing in this that I would critique, nitpicking aside. Wonderful work in an equally wonderful gallery!

I usually tend to give constructive critiques wherever I can, although in this case I don't think I'd have much to say, you know?

And you're welcome. C:

Are you guys all part of the same art group? And you all love Alphonse Mucha? That is cool that you have all incorporated his designs into your art.

LiquidFaeStudios In reply to thevalkerie [2010-11-08 13:46:24 +0000 UTC]

who is "you all" that you are referring to? If you mean the Art nouveau deviant art group that this image is in; "Art nouveau club" then yes - we all love Mucha LOL - but not just Mucha, Art Nouveau in general.

I am very inspired by all art nouveau, not just Mucha, tho in this piece in particular you can really see his style. In my "regular" work I am not quite so art nouveauy or mucha-y lol but I do incorporate many aspects of those art forms into my regular style.

Umm all the members in your admins. There was at least six of you that all did Alphonse Mucha inspired looks in your art. But yeah I saw the group now and it looks like fun. Unfortunately I don't speak any other languages yet. I can't really understand most of what is being said.

ahh lol no its not a thought about thing i suppose we all just did one or two at some point, i didnt even know that some of them did it as well. There are so many artists who love mucha its not surprising we all did works inspired by him

Oh mai, I really like art in "Art Nouveau" style! You did really amazing job on this piece, I like the shading of girls hair, skin and material. Whole shading is good, but these things look very good for me. I also like the pose of her and composition in this painting, it's amazing!

LiquidFaeStudios In reply to Deborah-Valentine [2010-05-14 02:38:41 +0000 UTC]

not at all. In my comments I detailed that this painting is done in the style of Art Nouveau, which is most commonly related to the work of Alphonse Mucha. However this is not a copy of his work, it is done in a style of art that was very popular at the turn of the 20th century. Although Alphonse Mucha was a huge influence on the movement, the style is not credited to him alone. So while his work did influence this piece, it is not based on only his style or his work. This is a mixture of my style as well as others, and he is properly regarded along with all the other artists that are encompassed by the term "Art Nouveau"

Had this been a copy of his work I would have credited him personally. Since its not, I simply left it open to the stylistic influences of the movement.

There are many types of art nouveau, you merely have chosen Mucha's style. Look at this---> [link] tell me I'm wrong.

I guess my art history lessons from California College of Art (art nouveau and preraphaelite art) are greatly in error, especially since the circles above her head and the framing styles are so alike Mucha. But remember, homage is merely a tribute. not stealing.

LiquidFaeStudios In reply to Deborah-Valentine [2010-05-14 13:39:22 +0000 UTC]

I do not disagree that this was more highly influenced by mucha than any other particular artist, especially noticeable in the very recognizable "Mucha arch" in the center of the painting. But even so, I don't particularly see a need to tribute Mucha more than referencing his chosen style.

Nor do I question your schooling, and I am sure I have had similar teachings in my art history lessons from the Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design.

none the less, I can add a note to Mucha in the comments section, seeing as it seems more important to you that I do, than it is to me if I don't

Man, you SHOULD be proud of this! This has got to be my favorite piece of yours to date, damn girl you out-do yourself every time. I love the flow of the cloth and her hair, and that oh-so-gorgeous gradient in the side panels. The addition to the cool black designs in those side panels looks just peachy too! But my favorite thing? The face! The expression is wonderful, I love the serene playful smile.

this is the one i REALLY wanted you to see! I thought you'd like it. The last two months or so, after I did the rendition of magdalen with the smoking flame I've really been pushing it and growing art out my ears. doing both that one and the mermaid Nouveau piece Ive been crazy about bringing the same amount of awesomeness into my normal work. Its like those pieces made me realize that there were things I could do that i didnt really KNOW I could do. So ive been working on more things like that to help bring the same kind of focus into my original work
