Description Sample of needles for Single-Needle knitting.
They are made of alder. This wood has dark heartwood and light sapwood. That makes for interesting artistic possibilities. I have tried to "place" the needles in the middle, making them light on one side and dark on the other. This is difficult, though, since the woods have different qualities.

The upper row of needles are copied from a (currently unpublished) 13th century medieval find from Tønsberg, Norway. The far right needle is of the same size as the original, ca. 9cm.
