Description
There I lie – spreadeagle on the lake
I can see everything and what it takes
To be normal, to be loved, to be free
But way down there, that’s me
I’m not the prettiest nor the most bright
Yet surrounding me is light
My hair is bedraggled, soaking wet
My eyes are open and my jaw is set
I look so peaceful, yet there’s screaming
The police, and rabid spectators wish they’re dreaming
I can’t save them from their hurt
While I lie there, inert
That step off the cliff is obscene
An act of desperation, so it seems
I’m up here, and looking down
If they look closer…I didn’t drown
I was pushed by an act of force
By those I loved, of course
I wanted to fit in, to be of the norm
Now I’ll be remembered like a passing storm
No one loved me, no one cares
I can see their vacant stares
“Who is she? Why does it matter?”
I was judged and I fell with a clatter
But while they worry, or think they care
I am at peace, let them stare.
