Description More brush inking on some rough con sketches of Frank Quitely's...figured since they were less finished I could work on them more and not feel like I'm ruining his art. Picked up a disconnected, almost sloppy style in an attempt to maintain the energy of his pencils. He's one of my favorite, if not my favorite, comic artists, so it's kind of daunting to go over his lines.

(guess I should put the original pencils here too)

Nice Gordon! Especially around his eyes and glasses. I inked the same piece last year but I couldn't get it quite so good. Nonetheless, bold lines seem to work on Quitely as well as thin ones.

Although I think his style is more often seen in sci-fi stuff like the X-men during Grant Morrison's run,you make Frank Quitely on Dr.Strange seem like a good idea even if he doesn't draw visceral stuff like the Lovecraftian like Shuma GorathΒ

Thanks, I was pretty happy with that one...maybe biased since he's one of my favorite characters. In year one anyway.

That's a really nice combo of styles, actually. Good stuff.

Thanks, Gene. I'm glad it turned out okay...Quitely is probably the influence I have who I draw the least like.

Looks great JD! You managed to keep that signature Quitely look and add a little bit of your own style too.

And yes, Frank Quitely has to be one of th ebest artists out there. Definitely one of my favorites!

Thanks. Was a lot of fun...I'd try to ink one of his full pages if I didn't have my own comics to ink.

I like that you had him do a con sketch of Gordon. A friend of mine has a little sketch collection of "side characters" from superhero comics going, and he's got a very nice Gordon among them.

Heh. I don't think I'd be brave enough to touch his art is I actually owned it...I just found some of his con sketches online, printed them out, darkened them a little, and lightboxed em.

I hope he does a con near here, but I've never seen his name for them.

You know, I always forget about lightboxing since I've never done it. At any rate, lookin' good!

That first link isn't going to the right piece. Also wanted to say that I'm lovin' what you're doing with the brush inking lately. It's bringing your style to the next level. Keep it up.
