Cause you can't see most of these details in the film... XD;;Kahinakuya is 14" tall including antenna. She is a "plushie puppet", basically a plushie who has been constructed on top of a stopmotion wire armature (her skeleton is all twisted aluminum wire). She is NOT floppy at all, she is very rigid. Everything is wired stiffly from her fingers to her coat tails. Despite this she is pretty 'cuddly' tho cause she is made form soft microsuede, fleece, and ultrasuede.
I did the airbrushing details of her coat back, head, and the colors of her jacket are also airbrushed.
(And if you didn't catch it she is meant to allude to the look of a praying mantis

Your film was amazingly staged. The lighting and the character design were just perfect.
(I had the opportunity to stay for a week at SCAD last June, and I enjoyed every minute of it. Wonderful school, I'm definitely applying. I took the 2D animation seminar, though, not stopmo. How long did this project take you?)

Wow thank you!! This was done as my second stop mo project in stop mo I. We did not have long to make it. I think from conception to completion it was only 3.5 weeks. We had about 1 week to actually animate. I made a second puppet which was far beyond the project, though to make up time wise for it I basically had no set (which was planned into the storyboards as what the film was about). The film had to be 30 seconds long too, I did it a little longer. 
I had a lot of fun at SCAD and learned a LOT. You really gotta work hard of course! I graduated in 2008 so things are different now I bet, some better maybe some worse, no where is perfect.

It's especially good that you were able to exceed the requirements. Bravo! I also really like your whimsical style.
We had one week to produce a 2-3 second clip in which a single character performed a simple action. We used lightboxes. (I should post that on here sometime...) The professor was excellent: even with the short time, he made us understand what a career as an animator entailed, and when I started to flounder a little bit, he took the time to help me fix all the bugs. And he *never* faked interest. He actually cared about my project. That's why SCAD's still one of my top application choices.
(Could you give me some advice? I'm making a puppet myslef and I'm wondering how to hide the 'foot ties' that stabilize the character. What did you do?)

That was *amazing*! Elaine was just plain beautiful, and the pace was not too slow--just gentle. The location added a lot: Savannah is such a lovely city. I don't usually see hybrid stopmo/live action films, so this was a treat. Thank you for showing me.
(Did you use claymation or replaceable face pieces for her eye movements?)
