Well, in my headcannon Golden it's being controlled by two souls, that would explain a little his instability.
Those two kids are Cassidy and Norman (Victim Bite / Crying Child)

Norman spent a long time wandering in the dark until he managed to find the whereabouts of Fredbear (now Golden. F) but by the time he wanted to be with him, someone was already possessing him. Cassidy wasn't at all pleased that someone else was with her, but she was saddened by the boy Afton. After disputes, both agreed to share the same body.

But that doesn't mean that both don't argue about who controls him the most.
