I want to go to this auction, load up, and haul them home. o___O I'm in maryland right now, yeah, and I'd love just to cart them back to Alabama. There seems to be a lot of nice horse flesh going through here. In AL, I can get horses for 25$ at auction, and a lot of them are really nice. I buy a few of them at a time, and we like to do fast turn over, and get them into good homes. Otherwise they go to the meat market. There's actually a farm near by that breeds horses just for that, and then ships them out of country. :\ It's gross.

hahah, i feel the same way about this auction!! thats a shame about the slaughter, it makes me sick to think about. I've never seen a horse/pony here go for cheaper than 50.

how can all those horses be so cheap. (exept that donkey)
all below 500$ That's below slaughter house prize. Was that a "crap" auction, like the last chance before slaughter or was that a regular auction

No, not a crap auction at all. This is a nice auction, and while some DO go to slaughter, these horses are awesome. Most are green broke, healthy, some registered. All have vet papers and up to date coggins/vaccinations. If they have injury they will sell them as "not sound" and will go for dirt cheap (yes, cheaper.) This particular horse was a well broke 6 year old who never raced and had no tattoos. I spoke with his owner and he said that this horse was very sweet and never gave him any problems other than the occasional buck. He was western trained and did barrels and poles.
The reason the zonkey was so expensive was because he was at the New Holland Auction calls a "Special Sale" where the horses have even more well known backgrounds and are all in higher skills. At these auctions horses like this one would fetch around 2,500-5,000. He would also come a day prior to the sale so potential buyers can view him and even test ride him. In 2 weeks they will be having another "special sale" that will feature only camp horses.
New Holland also does cows, goats, pigs, and sheep for very low prices. New Holland is held every Monday, even on holidays. With the occasional special sale usually being on saturdays.
