Please note: I cannot afford to give everyone everything for free. I do post fan art, and is if course my livelihood, early access to said fan art is for a small fee otherwise you must wait a few days for the public post. Some will be more elaborate, other pieces will be more simple.
Andcwarning, please note that there may be things in the post ahead that you don’t like, I am not shitting on the show or Rebecca, these are simply my criticisms. I have nothing but the utmost respect for Rebecca as a person, and have love for the show.
On to about the piece. I love the Steven Universe series, but as much as I love the series I’ve over time come to see the problems with the show looking back at it, and I have some criticisms about the show, and about Rebecca herself. The writing at times was inconsistent, there was of course the girl who was harassed for her fan art to where she made an attempt at her own life, there was harassment of members of the crew, the art style of the show was all over the place, and Rebecca’s stance with the “as long as it looks like the character, then it gets a pass” is in my book a woefully unprofessional stance in what is supposed to be a professional environment. The series has one of the most toxic fan bases, that sure know how to make people feel like shit, and that’s a terrible thing.
Such a stance as looking enough like the character may work for fan art, because people have their own styles, but for what is supposed to be the work for an official episode… one would kind of expect things to look uniform in every episode throughout the show, and the show did not have that, and it’s unfortunate that it did not.
There was also Rebecca’s little virtue signal that was kind of not needed, and she created a show that was “for children” but the themes were most certainly not for children, bordering on horror, the explanations she came up with weren’t exactly small child friendly, and the show really wasn’t all that popular, that’s why you’d have things so far and few between even with it’s very dedicated fan base. It also paved the way for shows that also weren’t as readily popular, and got cancelled after one to two seasons. It also had that whole Cal-arts style of animation that seems to be so popular.
