Your masks are fantastic! I wish I knew how to do this. I'd totally make some if I knew how. The touches of blue in this are fantastic. It really makes the spine things pop. I'm in love with your work now. Good job.

On a side note: Have you ever seen the movie Mirrormask? This reminds me of it.

Thanks so much!

Mirrormask... wow I had totally forgotten about that movie, but I do remember being stoked about it when it came out. Cant go wrong with Gaiman + Henson! I need to see it again!

Very nicely done! The blue streaky painting effect is wonderful.

Thanks Andrea!

Actually lucked out with those streaks, I carved them into the leather and put blobs of very wet blue paint at the tops and just let it run down into the cracks!

So far that technique hasnt been completely successful (I do it with my dragons too to make the scales stand out).... but on this one it worked perfectly!

I use that technique all the time. It's called "antique staining" and you can buy antiqueing acrylics for just that purpose from Tandy Leather Company.

You might try a small botte of black, just to see if you like it. I use that method on almosrt every not-white mask I do. It really makes your carving pop. Check out the link:

You can use it safely right over your paint...the excess wipes off but leaves stain behind in your carving & in creases, adds texture & depth. It saves a TON of time too. Give it a try.
