Heh, still took me a while though. I can say though I was a little more focused than usual, compared to olden days where it'd take me a week to paint something that really wasn't all that fancy.

I've got plenty of characters as well, though I have yet to draw them well enough to be worthy of being uploaded. Have yet to produce results. Though I figure I might give preference to characters that I consider more important in the grand scheme of things.

Yeah... See most people charge big bucks for a commission and I don't even have small buck to spend, otherwise I'd have more...

Yeah, these things do add up quickly. I don't even want to think of what I've spent on my other hobbies, not to mention the few times I've been ripped off by idiots.
As long as there are still quite a few people at my level or better who do freebies, you'll come across them time to time. Or get good at catching kiribans. On that note, not gonna name names, but I swear I see some folks who catch one from a really good artist and end up requesting something really lame in my opinion. Something that honestly doesn't match their subject matter, aesthetic or style.
As for commissions, at the big bucks range there's quite a bit of variability. Only a few artists I've seen have a style that really speaks to me, despite all being talented. Regardless, I don't see myself offering commissions at any point, since I do not think I can charge a reasonable price for my effort and the result, whereas other artists are able to deliver quality things faster and cheaper. Makes sense to me to allocate that kind of work to those more efficient at performing it.
But give it a shot drawing your own characters. Depending on how observant and how sharp your self critique is, you may be able to pick up on things faster than you think. I'm completely self taught at this point, though I'd probably be much better if I had formal instruction.
