Overview:

Audie would like to say she's nothing like her mother and father, and in some ways, that's great. She is open-minded and not nearly as closed off as the two woodpeckers. Finding joy in learning new things and always willing to meet others. The woodpecker is also incredibly romantic. Hopelessly so in some ways. But she likes to say she has standards, and if her heart isn't fluttering like a hummingbird's wings, then she'll know. Around others, she can come off as cheeky. A little sarcastic and known to tease, Audie's parents were straight laced and never seemed to joke around. The little bird always tried to change it to little effect.

Her parents did give her her determination though. That and her honesty. Watching her father's determination as he went out time and time again for their food. Always coming back with a literal and figurative hunger to find more for his family. Her mother, on the other wing, taught her about life. She didn't sugarcoat a thing, and it made it at least slightly easier to get into the world. Audie might not like to be much like her parents, but she couldn't deny that they had passed down some important things.

Living in the nest has made her naive to a certain degree. Despite her mother's lessons, Audie has chosen to believe the best in everyone and everything. She's still anxious about ... well, most things. She's an antsy little bird, but she's learned to live with it and all her nervous habits. Her naivety makes her look at the world with rose-tinted glasses. Audie likes to think that it helps to keep her kind. Germaine always said kindness wasn't meant for the wild. She wanted to be nice though. She wanted a kind and soft world so greatly unlike the one her mother told her about. And she would do anything for it.

    Survival of the species was most likely the only reason William and Germaine ever got together. Having only known each other a few seasons the pair were getting older and both knew that their last mating season would be soon approaching. So the male woodpecker decided to court the blunt yet loyal female. Accepting the courtship, the two took comfort in the fact that they would not be alone and soon they would have a family together.

    Living in the nest was safe… for the most part at least.

Only a few days after Audie and her siblings hatched, a large, smelly white wolf passed under their nest. It was the first but not the last. It never bothered her parents as they had seen many wolves in their time in Riverfell, yet with it came the fall season and the death of so many. Food was scarce as the plants began to die and insects went dormant or dead with the cold. The scattered remains of dead prey were all that remained and with them came flies and the maggots they left behind.

It wasn’t what William and Germaine wanted for their little flock but at least they were alive.

    Audie and her siblings did not thrive in their youth as their parents had. The land around them seemed to wither in the presence of the white creatures. None of the woodpecker family knew what to do and it seemed that most of the prey in the area felt the same. They got used to eating mostly maggots and flies. The beautiful holly and blue berries her parents talked about were nothing but a dream to their hatchlings.

That is until the white wolves began to disappear.

As the winter began, all the young hatchlings knew that the start of spring would bring their departure. Audie had grown well enough but the idea of leaving the nest terrified her. Her mother talked little about the joys of the world and more about her duties as a female. Audie hated it. She wanted adventure without the consequences. She wanted to taste the variety of life… literally. Most of all she wanted true romance. But she knew just how harsh the world was.

Spring brought back the plants and a variety of insects. It was more than Audie could ever imagine. And then she left the nest.

    The red headed woodpecker didn’t exactly do amazing on her own. Food wasn't as much of a struggle as finding unoccupied shelter. Most nooks and crannies in the woods were taken and the free ones were close to the pack. Which she honestly didn’t mind. These wolves were different and interesting to say the least. Maybe she should get a closer look?
