No, I draw everything from memory, but I practise with drawing life models.
And it's okay to use references and models, they're here to help you delevop your style and technique. I wouldn't consider it as cheating. c:

Grabbing a charcoal stick, a sketchpad and drawing life models is always a good start. c:
If not, then dA provides thousands of reference pictures you can draw form. There's no exact formula for this, just lots of patient practice.
And tutorials made by professional artists are plenty useful too? And for practice, don't be afraid to draw from good artworks or famous masterpieces. Practice is practice.
