Description Well, most of you probably know this story already. It is indeed the fairytale which Disney made a movie about.

The queen has had a child (not quite sure where the king is at this point. We think she might have killed him, since she is wearing the “man” crown ) and has invited twelve fairies to her christening, so that they can bless the princess. However, there is a thirteenth fairy in the kingdom, who was not invited because the castle did not have enough golden crockery (or possibly because she looks pretty scary), so she shows up and curses the baby to prick her finger and die when she turns sixteen. After she leaves, the only one of the fairies not to have blessed the child uses her blessing to ease the curse: the girl will not die, but fall into a deep sleep until she receives a true love’s kiss. Sixteen years later, the princess, Briar Rose, is exploring the caste forest when she encounters a strange woman dressed in black. The woman (the evil fairy) congratulates the princess on her birthday and gives her a beautiful blue cape as a present. When the fairy has gone, the princess tries to put the cape on but she pricks her finger on the pin and collapses. A hundred years later, a young prince arrives in the forest, determined to save the cursed princess. The evil fairy arrives to stop him, and they fight. He manages to slay her, but is unable to recover his crown, which she blew into a tree. He then proceeds to find the sleeping princess, cut trough the thicket of briar around her and wake her with a kiss. The grateful princess happily agrees to go with the strange man to his father’s kingdom and marry him. As they pass a tree, Briar Rose comments upon the crown hanging from one of the branches. The prince explains what happened and admits that he can’t reach the crown himself. The princess reaches up, grabs the branch, takes the crown down and gives it back to him. The prince is very grateful, and the happy couple walk of together.

So, obviously, we had a few cutbacks. We had to drop eleven fairies, since they don’t really have an important part in the story (the king was dropped for the same reason), and Briar Rose pricks her finger on a cape pin, since spinning wheels are hard to come by these days. And the thicket... well, we did our best. The rest is up to your imaginations Also, there is a variation of the tale that says all of the castle fell asleep with her. That’s also the case here, even though we don’t show any of them. That way, Briar Rose didn’t have to wake up after 100 years and be all alone (except for the necrophiliac prince ).
As for the side story with the crown, that’s in there for two reasons: 1) Toyger forgot to put her crown on before rescuing the princess, and 2) we wanted to play a bit on the fact that our hero is quite a bit shorter than our heroine, even when he’s on high heels
