Description
If I told you about her, what would I say? That they lived happily ever after? I believe they did. That they were in love? That they remained in love? I’m sure that’s true. But when I think of her, of Eliza, the only thing that comes to mind is a poem whispered by someone in love hundreds of years ago: “Unable to perceive the shape of You, I find You all around me. Your presence fills my eyes with Your love. It humbles my heart; for You are everywhere.”

There are few Oscar-winning films that I truly like. Very few, actually. But The Shape of Water is one that captured my admiration and love after the first couple of minutes. It’s artsy, but not in an annoying way, it’s unique, but not in a cringe-y/off-putting way, and it’s dark, but doesn’t bash on humanity or simply say ‘life sucks; deal with it’. It’s hopeful, inspiring, eye-opening, and all-in-all a pretty dang good film.
In this picture, I wanted to experiment with light texture, shading, and backgrounds. I tried to mimic the poster for The Shape of Water to the best of my ability and recreated it with Eliza and the Fish Man pony-fied. Not sure why I wanted to draw this, but after I made the initial sketch, I just felt a warm, fuzzy feeling the longer I worked on it.
