I’ve never been a fast runner.Or a competent runner, to be frank.
But I have a feeling I will learn
to be soon enough.
Because I can’t stand
standing here any longer,
watching your watercolor heart
fade under my tears.
I can’t stand the breakdown,
and so I will run.
With my hair whipping my face,
my own form of self-flagellation,
my feet pounding pavement, pounding
the thoughts of you further
into the back of my head.
Compartmentalize, set aside,
dust frequently, but never open.
But you know.
You know, and I know,
that it doesn’t matter how far I run.
You’ll always have my heart.
So I’ll be running in place,
falling apart at the edges
but going nowhere,
stagnant.
