Description As always, Switzerland has the best views of the world.
Photo taken at ~1950 meters

Ps, don't let looks fool you, in the end of this valley where you see the grassy green stripe in between the forest? that is also a path upwards, it's 1400 meters at the base, 1700 a the top of that green stripe.
Along that trail I took this photo livelongbutlol.deviantart.com/…
And this one too when you walk past the up high forest above the (same) green stripe.

Yeah, these are all awesome! They have a hidden story all to themselves, you know! This one was carved by a glacier, for instance, and the surrounding mountains are guaranteed to be made of Igneous rock uplifted by the pressing of plate boundaries. This is awesome stuff!

Mostly caused by tectonic plates pushing upwards, the weather indeed does create these valley's.
Such as this one

The mountains certainly are caused by tectonics, but those valleys carve out the U-shapes there. Weathering via water plays a part as well, as seen in your other picture. The river was eroding a V-shape into the land below in that one, and it is quite the view as well! Sorry for geeking out, I like stuff like that!
