thanks. I have done some silver work, but too expensive. I use mostly steel and stainless.

Oh wow! This is absolutely gorgeous. I was looking through the DDs (congrats on that, by the way, you definitely deserve it!!) and thought, "Hey! That looks like a LLAMA. oΟo" I'm very glad I clicked the link. This is amazing craftsmanship, and I can't even begin to think about how long it took to make. Great job!!

Brilliant! almost reminds me of the "bird's nest" but not as random. 1000 years from now, this piece will be reveared as an ancient and important relic, similiar to that of egyptian articfacts. ^^

Out of the over 500 comments I received about this piece, yours was the most insightful and thought provoking. You are an original thinker. Thank you!

^^ On a more profound note, the artistic merit of the piece, to me, is that the 3 dimensional Llama exists as space within the interwoven 2 dimensional surfaces. The Llama is not the metal flowers (which exist independently as crafted pieces in their own right). The Llama is there but, ironicaly, it is also not there! The theory therefore is, can actual space be the subject of art? In this case, the answer is yes.

Markeee,
I read your other two replies with relish. There is a need for putting image concepts into words so people lacking their own powers of interpretation can understand what the artist is doing - this you do astoundingly well. Spacial nothingness is perfect. I have been searching for words to compliment this new technique to no avail until you came along. Thank you for your time and attention.
Here is something a critic in NYC wrote;
ANIMALS
Hunting through lifeβs debris, Donald reclaims outcast chunks of society to manipulate them, twist them, burn them and reanimate them into creatures that are more authentic than the found objects were themselves. He births animals that possess a haltingly ethereal feel, and we have an uncanny sense that the creatures are indeed studying us more intently than we are studying them. Through the webbed and jagged metal that is the animalβs belly, we can view the objects within them, betraying our tendency to ignore what is in front of us every day.
It's OK, but I would like to have something that I can use for the press and galleries etc, that really says something significant about the work and technique.
Can we correspond at livesteel@gmail.com? Easier for me.
Don
