Saturday afternoon, you were out walking Maple when you ran into your boyfriend Matthew. His blonde hair was mussed as usual, a stray strand falling over his violet eyes, and he looked like he was in a rush, his clothing disheveled.

When he saw you, he let out a sigh of adoration, before catching himself and snapping out of his stupor. Stumbling a little over his own feet, he hurried to your side, waving both of his hands as if he were worried you might miss him.

"Hi," he said, out of breath. "How are you?"

"Hey, Mattie." You leaned forward to kiss him on the cheek.

His face flushed pink, and he looked down at the ground. "H-hi," he said again, stammering.

You hid a smile. "What's up? What are you doing here?" You hadn't made any plans to meet up with him this weekend as far as you could remember.

"I wanted to see you," he said, without looking up.

"Oh." You blinked twice, surprised at his assertiveness. He was usually too shy to make the first move. "Did you want to come over? I'm heading home now, actually. I'm done walking Maple."

His face lit up, and he tried to contain his excitement. "Really? Are you sure? You're not busy with anything?"

"What would I be busy with?" You shook your head, smiling to yourself. "You're so random—random and cute," you said, without thinking.

Matthew froze, his eyes widening. "C-cute?" he repeated, staring at you.

"Y-yeah." You met his eyes, feeling awkward all of a sudden. "Do you not like being called cute? I won't if you don't—"

"No!" he blurted, startling both of you. He held up a hand, as if he were telling you to wait for a moment, and then turned his face away, covering it with his other hand. "H-hold on," he said, flustered. "D-don't look at me right now."

"U-um." You averted your eyes, but not before catching a glimpse of his bright-red face. Your own face warmed, and you made a mental note to tell him how cute he was more often, perhaps with a camera ready to snap a picture of his adorable blushing.

"I don't mind if you call me cute," he finally said, lowering his hand. "I was surprised you think I'm c-cute. S-sorry."

"It's okay, Mattie." You linked arms with him and began walking together to your house. Changing the subject, you asked, "So why were you in such a rush to see me?" You looked up at him and waited for his reply.

He let out a cough. "I, ah, had this dream."

"A dream?"

"Well, more like a nightmare," he corrected.

"Uh-huh?"

"And in the nightmare, you—you forgot about me. You know, people forget about me all the time. Even Alfred forgets me sometimes." The words tumbled out of his mouth. "S-so I thought I'd drop by and remind you that I'm here." The look he gave you melted your heart, and you let out a gentle chuckle.

"I could never forget you," you said, resting your head against his shoulder. "And I promise I won't."
