Description My 4th portrait of Thomas Kretschmann. My first attempt at using the digital acrylics. I struggled a bit at first, but figured to actually paint as opposed to draw with them. Mostly used dry brush and opaque brushes for detail.

Tried to keep it loose, and not finish it off too much.
It looks strangely like a 50's Illustration.

The use of color the highlights and shadows--amazing! Thought for a second it was a screenshot of the fabulous Thomas Kretschmann. Well done indeed!

this is really very well done, I love the sort of rough look on this, and how you can see every single brushstroke. and yet, it all blends perfectly, and you achieved a really convincing expression and lighting, and the colours look natural, too. I think the background could be a taaaaad bit more refined, I'd love to see an indication of some environment there, because it would really help to define that guy more, but it's good in any case

well done,
Daniel

Aaaah - you spotted that
Hmm, backgrounds, not my strongest point... I just don't enjoy doing them. This stuff just now, I'm trying to get myself back into enjoying it...

Thanks for looking

hm, dunno, I think it would be nice if you could find joy in them, because ultimately, the background/environment will support your character, define him more, give him a story, it can give insight into the character's thoughts and plans....an environment is a powerful thing, that's why I think it is sad when character artists leave them out completely and just do a gradient, a dark colour or some rough brushstrokes....a slight indication would already be sufficient, I think in the end it is a portrait, of course

In this one, maybe I could have done something else... but not sure what. The aim in this was to create a portrait using the acrylic brushes. The background worked for me, initially I was just going to do flat colour, but that really looked awful.

I'll try something in my next one...

Thanks - I've done a fair bit of painting before, it's taken me a while to figure how to transfer that into digital.
Your still lifes are good - nice use of colour

WOW! Haven't seen anything painted here like this in ages! AWESOME!

Look what you've caused me to do. Haven't used caps like that in a long time either. Or as many exclamation marks, for that matter...
