Yep, that image was not heaviily cropped actually - only slight cropping on the borders due to lens corrections.
35mm lenses are cool for this kind of shots for two resons - 1st. they`re wideangle-ish nature allows you to grab some extra environment in the frame and the 2nd you still have fast aperture that isolates your subject perfectly.
