Kito’s Story
Born only three years after his elder siblings, Kito was a loud, yapping cub straight out the womb. He was born with two other liter mates, an older sister and their younger brother. Growing up Kito was your normal active, extroverted cub, he took much after his grandpas simba personality as far as tricking the old hornbill Zazu and outsmarting him with his tricky ways. Kito loved exploring the pridelands and even got caught in the pridelands and graveyards few too many times by either the guard or his father.

Kito knew from an early age he did not want to be bound to one place for the rest of his life, he longed to explore the great savannah and see what’s out there in the world. He confided in his father and often talked about his plans to leave when he becomes older. Now Kovu loved his son dearly and the two were often very close, and like any parent tried to talk his son out of it thinking it was only his vivid imagination and daydreaming running wild.

One evening Kovu accompanied his three youngest cubs to come with him to patrol the border, Kiara was against it because it’s too dangerous for them especially her youngest cub, Nuru, who was increasingly losing his hearing in his ears. Kovu made sure that he would watch them like a hawk and Kiara was convinced and let them go. And boy does she regret that decision everyday.

On their patrol Kito got a bit sidetracked and was playfully stalking a centipede, unbeknownst that the little big lacked a powerful venom. Kito pounced on the little creature who in defense immediately bit the young prince near his eye and injected its venom. Kito screamed out of pain and swept the bug from his face, rubbing his eyes with his leg further spreading the venom to both his eyes. His father heard his screams, picked him up by the scruff of the neck, and ran to Rafiki’s tree along with his other two cubs. Rafiki tried his best but after about a week of a painful recovery, the old mandrill came to the conclusion that the young prince has lost his sight.

Kovu and Kiara was absolutely heart broken.

Kovu was absolutely devastated, if only he had been paying closer attention, or maybe run faster for help, maybe the venom wouldn’t have spreaded so quickly? The king and queen were scared for their cubs and unintentionally sheltered them from the outside world, out of their three cubs, two were now disabled and they tried their best to look after them and prevent another tragic event. But like all kids, the royal cubs became restless as they got older, and so kiara became more lenient in their freedom. At this point in time it was hard for the royal siblings to make friends with the rest of the pride because a good part of their life was just them being hidden away. They started to resent their parents in a way, for being too over protective and not finding a different alternative.

It took a while for Kito to get used to not being able to see anymore but with the help of a couple of moles that Timon and Pumba knew, he learned to used his other sense that became heightened later on as he grew. His hearing and smell were even stronger than before and he “sees” with his paws, the different vibrations that he feels through the ground helped him differentiate between what animal and who it was. And soon enough he became a pro, of course he has his moments but he is extremely gifted and still hopes one day he will be ready enough to become a rogue.

Kito has a rocky relationship with both his parents and when they do talk it is very brief. But for now he mainly spends his time with his brother Nuru and they help each other out a lot, with him being blind and his brother being deaf, they communicate to each other in their own way.

First and foremost as you read on you may notice that the way he “sees” was inspired by the one and only Toph from Avatar the last airbender, and his blindness along with his heightened senses was inspired but the Marvel show “Daredevil” (I highly recommend watching both if you never seen them before). I also adopted this precious boy from “lineartsofthedemon_” on instagram!
