Description In Norse mythology, Yggdrasil is the world tree, evergreen ash, which is the image of the cosmos. (basswood, 75x37 cm)

"An ash I know there stands,
Yggdrasill is its name,
a tall tree, showered
with shining loam.
From there come the dews
that drop in the valleys.
It stands forever green over
UrΓ°r's well."

Congratulations for the DD, but among the Yggdrasil tree shouldn't be a giant sleepy snake? Or I got confused with another myth?

You're right, this tree is related to many animals and symbols. I chose to make just plain tree with rivers. I think I will come back to this myth and manage additional Yggdrasil tree with snake.

I think you're getting your mytos crossed. At least from my knowledge. Yggdrasil is the tree of life. Said to be the tree that bore the fruit of every living being that walked the planet.

IllyDragonfly In reply to Jim-DA [2013-07-13 20:24:44 +0000 UTC]

Now we are talking I'm pretty sure it's the right myth, around that tree there are many animals, but among the roots there are many snakes andΒ NidhΓΆggr'Β s one who chews the roots and during the Ragnarok will raise to destroy the world.

But I still think your work is beautiful!

I see, I forgot about that part. This artwork isn't mine btw. I do like to find various forms of myths and keep it in the mind vault here. The part of the myth I told was repeated in 'Legend of Dragoon' for the PS1. It became a rather focal point in said game towards the later part of disk 3.

Thesis a really nice piece, love the contrasting colours, and the fact that the world tree is in fact made of wood. The style also has a nice mythological quality to it. Congrats on the well deserved DD.
