Having not done so well with the photo look that i envy from a lot of digital artists here (your all amazing) I decided to go for a painted, rugged look. Just simply painting. I started with a refernce and sketched over, then using a smaller version of the same reference to act as my pallet and guide I painted over. I posted a layer by layer view too. I'm pretty happy with it.
