Since 2003 this is... my official job!!

Yes, this is one of the things I do for living: latex prosthetics for LARP (live action role play), Halloween, fantasy themed parties, etc.
(I put it into 'textiles>costumes' for I couldn't find any better category!)

I'm quite proud of my latex stuff because I work it in a long process, in order to achieve a high quality item, much better that most of those you can generally find around.

The design of the model is by me: I sculpted the original form with clay, and get the first, 2-pieces mould out of it.
After having the first mould, you must cast the first latex prototype, finish it, and from that you get the moulds that are to be used in the everyday work.

From the moulds, you get a not-refined product, but this is what you can often see in shops. The surface of the "skin" is rough and has some little round "dot" on it (the older the mould is, the worse surface you get).

I "level" the surface piece by piece, and then give it another layer of latex, which makes the surface perfectly smooth.
Adding talcum powder gives a silky touch, and protects the latex too.

My elf ears are standard sized, but the fit most ears easily, even without glue (if you don't run around, that is!), and because they don't cover the ear hole, you can still perfectly listen to everything.
The colour shade can be tuned to one's skin with common make-up.
To make them look better and to avoid the risk of loosing the ears, they can be glued to the real skin with spirit glue, or even with some liquid latex (it dries with air, and is simple to use, but you can't take it off anyway but tearing it off your skin, so I don't suggest it, even if I used it lots of times ^^)

As soon as I get a job again, I'm definitely ordering at least one pair of these ears from you, they are the best I've seen in quite some time! Definitely better than the Woochie brand!

too bad, you wouldent probibly want to ship ears to canada.......but hey i am looking for ears like this and can't find anything like this anywhere! i love them

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Lluhnij In reply to AmyWeaving [2007-04-05 07:31:03 +0000 UTC]

Sure, I can send the ears more or less anywhere and there is no problem with Canada. The only limitation is that for small quantities Paypal is the only decent option of payment (the others charge too much in commission fees).
Aw, also, I realized that in the future I will have to rise a bit the prices, because those in this page are outdated, but I tell you this just in case you would like to purchase more ears later. At this time the price I apply is the one that is shown here.
So, if you're interested just let me know and we can set up all the thing (not that it's very complicated ) ^^

VelvetMaiden [2007-03-19 19:09:45 +0000 UTC]

Yay! A fellow LARPer! It's so hard finding people that share the same past time. I currently play in a Werewolf: The Apocalypse game. I tried one Vampire: The Masquerade, but the story was kind of lacking. One day I'll try vampire again. One day ^^

I really love the look of your elf ears, especially since they don't have the little bit of extra latex that kind of goes into the ear, but yours seem to wrap around. I love that! ^_^ Makes it so much easier to look realistic.

Hmmmm...I want these x3

I checked on xe.com and they are approx. ยฃ5 to ยฃ6....How much would that be including postage and packaging? Do you even ship to the UK I hope you do - I've always wanted to be an elf

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Lluhnij In reply to azayii [2007-03-05 11:48:18 +0000 UTC]

I ship in all the places where a registered letter can get to! ^^
The cost of 1 pair of ears plus shipping is 15 euro, that is 10,2 GBยฃ (checked it ten minutes ago on the Oanda currency converter).
The shipping is 5 euro, for up to several pairs, so if you find someone else and buy more pairs, you can save up something on the shipping cost
Plus, if you find even more people, buying 10 or more articles you get quantity discounts, starting from 10% for 10 pairs /articles (it's ok also for other latex products, such as these [link] )

Thank you for the interest!

o-o That sounds like an AWESOME job... What kind of school/training did you go to to get it?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Lluhnij In reply to ProfessionalPanda [2006-08-19 07:16:08 +0000 UTC]

I went to a scientific high school (the same sort of both my parents), then I realized that nothing of those sujbects were what I wanted to do in life, and attended a Fine Arts Academy, choosing the course of Decoration. But many things I had to learn by myself, and it was my mom who taught me how to sew. Anyway, I've been playing and eperimenting with various materials for all my life! (My good luck is that my parents didn't kill me for all the mess I did!)

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

ProfessionalPanda In reply to Lluhnij [2006-08-19 18:18:20 +0000 UTC]

xD I wish I could do that kind of stuff... my mom is always busy telling me about how there's absolutely nothing in the feild of art that can make any money... so she's always like: Why don't you be a secretary, or a blahblah or a blahblah. >.< My dad tells me I can do anything if I put my mind to it and my mom belittles me. I wish I could go to like... an Art college or something.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Lluhnij In reply to ProfessionalPanda [2006-08-19 21:54:45 +0000 UTC]

Ah, talking about money, this (past few months) isn't a great period for me and so I'm quite under pressure, especially by my mom, like you! Instead of helping me to find solutions for my work, she keeps saying that I should look for a "normal" job, even yelling at me. It's a huge stress and it makes me waste a lot of energies that I could spend to improve my work, I can tell it's quite disappointing when such a behavious comes from a parent, and eplaining her that she's not helping doesn't change anything!
BTW, my sister helps me about my mood, and my father helps me with advices and ideas, and my bf helps me in both ways, so I'm not giving up, and I already studies some steps to take in order to help myself out of this situation.
And it seems they work, for I already got some results, new contacts and most of all orders and commissions.

I can understand the worries of your mom, but I think that if you really feel that your life has to be centered on art, or creativity, or whatever you feel, it's a great pity that you throw your passion away from the start. At least, you could give it try, and give up only if you see that it's really too hard, for example because the market isn't good in your area, or because you have the skills but can't get a good organization, or for any other reason.

I suggest that you search inside yourself what is the thing that you deeply and mostly want to do, and then give it a try, with precise goals to achieve, and a finished time to get there. But don't give up before a serious try.
