I used Corel Painter 8 for the whole thing. Did the linework with the airbrush brush and filled it in with the paintbucket tool. On the background walls I used the sponge brush. And I used burn and dodge (in the photo brushes) to shade and highlight the characters.

Thanks! I had a 30 day trial of "Corel Painter 9.5" but I didn't have a clue how to use it, so I've been doing everything using "Flash 8" since then.

Oh, Corel Painter 8 (or 9.5) is pretty easy to use. Easier than photoshop in my opinion. Just scan in a pencil drawing, and open it up. Then go to "layers" (at the top of the screen) and choose "add a new layer". Then pick the brush tool (set to airbrush or pen) and make it black and trace all your pencil lines on that new layer. You can go to the top of the screen and where it says "window" to make sure you have the color wheel open. Then pick colors on it, and use the tool that looks like a paint bucket to fill in all the linework with color. You can try Painter again, and any questions you have you can send me in a note and I'll explain how to do anything.
