random fact: the term "mad hatter" didn't come from hatters really being crazy... it's because they looked like madmen walking down the streets, because they had nerve damage, from the exposure of the very toxic chemical mercury. :3

actually i think it was the chemical used to help tan the hides or something.

mercury poisoning also causes mood swings and mental disturbances, so i would say that it would come from that as well since they would be mentally messed up in the head from such exposure of mercury.

i have no clue why i remember that, one time in my 8th grade science class my teacher showed a video about mercury poisioning and i guess some of it stuck with me. haha. |DΒ
