Now that is the proper way to end an epic heroes tale. Victory will come at a terrible sacrifice, but will also be a perfect victory.

Oh yes.

Either way though, Jack would have been making a sacrifice. If he had killed Aku in the future, he would still have Ashi and his allies, but at the cost of never getting to see his family from the past again.

Still, I think that this sacrifice hits the fans even harder, because that would mean losing all those characters from the future (eg the Scotsman) that they've grown to love and cherish...

At least it means that future is unwritten. No guarantee that the future will turn out better then it was left. But at least it will be free of Aku and the people will decide by their choices how things turn out. That alone is what is most important and makes it a perfect ending to Jack's quest.

Aye.

I think what the new future looks like is completely up to the viewers' imagination. I'm not sure for myself.

However, there are some things we can be sure that Aku won't do now. Remember those dogs that were crucified as a punishment for failing to meet Aku's expectations? Now that Aku's gone, he won't force the dogs to mine the jewels for him and they won't get crucified.

Exactly, as long as the world is free of him then that alone makes it all worth it.

Yep. ^^

I mean the list goes on. I can't list them all for the sake of space, but I can name a few examples:

Ancient Japan will continue to thrive instead of becoming forgotten ruins. The Scotsman won't be killed by Aku. The future Earth will hopefully watched over by a moral government instead of a sadistic demon, and the Earth won't be overrun by dangerous intergalactic criminals.

And most importantly, I like to think that Ashi and her sisters were born into a happier family. This time, the High Priestess isn't a child abuser but a loving mother and they have a better father as well.

Although i would like to think the father looks like a human version of Aku.

Oh yeah.

And who would say, perhaps the gods decided to give Aku a second chance and reincarnated him as a human.

That's a wonderful thing to hope for. Even if it is in a fictional universe.

Oh yeah. The possibilities are endless. My vision of it is that Jack has now become a legend due to triumphant victory over the world's 'ultimate evil', and his sword is now in a museum. There is a sad note however, as since Aku never rose to power, all the adventures Jack had in the future now never happened and none of his friends remember he was even there, not even the Scotsman. However, the ones who have heard the story admire him, and for a funny measure, maybe throw the Scotsman in wishing he could have met Jack in person.

Or, like in the last episode of Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated. The surviving members of the battle find themselves in the reality where Aku never rose to power yet they all still have their memories of the other timeline along with new memories in the new timeline. As a gift you might say.

I dunno if she ceases to exist in the conventional sense. Look into the legneds surrounding the ladybug and the strings of fate. This is a nice sentiment, though. It was a sad resolution to a character who deserved peace. Perhaps in an altered timeline she found it.

I think that's what the episode and Jack's reaction to it implied.

He realized that Ashi and all his friends from the future are still out there somewhere. He knows that because his actions in the past altered the future, they won't remember the times he cherished with him, but he can rest assured that with Aku gone, at least they're living better lives.

Hopefully she did... I like to think that she and her sisters were reborn in the future. This time with loving parents who care for her and her sisters instead of abusing them, and one day she walks into a museum that has Jack's sword on display telling the tales of the unnamed Samurai who defeated the ultimate evil, and she gets a feeling of deja vu that she just can't put her finger on...
