Remember, Tails is a teenager now. He's 14, so he's... a bit gripey and snarky sometimes. He just jammed a screwdriver in a desk! He's upset about Amy too, but he shows it in different ways.
He's his own person, not just Sonic's sidekick. He doesn't just suck up to Sonic and trail after him, but he does his own thing. He'll always see Sonic as his big bro, but he's not a reliant baby any more.
