Here are some stories that would make great Disney animated films.

8. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

This is a great adventure story that started the famous Chronicles of Narnia book series. I put it last since Disney already adapted the book into a live-action film but imagine if an animated film would have made by Disney in the 90s before.

7. The Starlight Barking

The sequel to Dodie Smith's The Hundred and One Dalmatians, which was adapted into the 1961 animated classic 101 Dalmatians and its 1996 live-action remake. Although both films got their respective sequels, neither sequel film has any connection to that sequel book. I'm sure that, if it was adapted into a film, it would have taken place after 101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London Adventure.

6. The Magic Flute

Mozart's classic opera who surely should be adapted into an animated film. I would imagine Papageno being an actual anthropomorphic bird, and The Queen of the Night seems to fit in the Disney Villains lineup. I got inspired by the 1994 film produced by Ruby-Spears Productions, DIC Entertainment and Greengrass Productions: www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxulyW… (ship at 2:16)

5. The Sneetches

An underrated Dr. Seuss story about anthropomorphic birds that serves as a satire of discrimination between races and cultures. Like other studios did with Dr. Seuss film adaptations, many new characters and subplots would be added to the story to bring it up to feature-length.

4. Heidi

A great classic of children's literature who doubtless should be adapted by Disney.

3. The Snow Queen

One of Hans Christian Andersen's most iconic stories which Disney unsuccessfully attempted to adapt. And no, Frozen is NOT an adaptation to this story, they are TOTALLY different.

2. Hansel and Gretel

One of the most famous fairy tales written by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm. I would see many new characters and subplots added to the story to bring it up to feature-length.

Before going the number one, here are two honorable mentions:
  • Oliver Twist - I know that it was already adapted into Oliver and Company, but it played as more of an original story instead of an adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic.
  • Les Miserables - I would imagine Disney giving it the same treatment they did to The Hunchback of Notre Dame, mainly ending the story with a happy ending.
1. Lucky Luke

It would be great to have an American animated film based on Morris and Goscinny's Lucky Luke comics. I would imagine Joe Dalton being voiced by either Danny Trejo or Alan Tudyk and Averrell Dalton being voiced by Jim Carrey if he came back from acting retirement. I imagine this in the same vein as Alice in Wonderland, The Sword in the Stone, The Jungle Book, Robin Hood, Aladdin, Hercules, The Emperor's New Groove, and Home at the Range due to its cartoonier nature.
