Yaaaay finally I'm done building up to everything I wanted to show you! Of course, Cecile's arc is not over yet; I'm about 90% sure it will be another 3 or 4 pages until it's finished, but for now I can take a breather from cranking these things out and work on some other stuffSigh...

Yeah, I like this better than the hole Master Foo way of evolution. (Don't get me wrong, I adore martial arts type things but frankly it's overdone and wouldn't work at all for my team.) My background is in gore/horror art so it was nice to bring some of that into these comics for once >BD

Master Foo is for pokemon who want to evolve. Pokemon that are afraid or just plain do not want to evolve wouldn't go to him, involuntary evolution has to happen sometime to not make those characters OOC! Haha well I love supernatural horror so I like this page, but I'm a wimp so I'll be having nightmares later.

It looks like she really didn't want this.
I hope the Cecile head wins in the end, she's the better contrast to Amory and is much cuter and sweeter.
Yet still somewhat tough.

Yeah, she didn't want it but she never has since she's lived with it.
I hope so too, but I'm still really unsure as of now because that will be very far off into the future. One of the things I love about Cecile is how sweet she is, but I wonder now how that will work since her violent side has a mind of its own (I haven't planned this out terribly far ahead, haha...)

It's a bit of a sad evolution and those are sometimes the best.
(One of my team mates lost part of himself when he evolved and he feared it deeply. That felt rude to say, I apologize.)
I guess Cecile will just have the be more emotionally strong, being psychotic could be the other side's weakness.

I agree - this is partly why I wanted to try this. Again, the whole I've-been-trained-I'm-stronger-everything-is-awesome thing has been super played out and these characters were designed to be a little on the dark side so I could do stuff like this if the opportunity arose.

I think some Pokemon evolutions are kind of tragic.
Three of these that come to mind are Zweilous, Banette, and Parasect.
Zweilous is kind of stated here, but Shuppet are actually suppossedly shy and friendly according to the anime and they don't seem aggressive in the games.
Also they're based on teru teru bozu which are suppossed to stop the rain. This kind of symbolizes what they do with negative emotions. They absorb them and help out. Until they meet a lonely doll and they've built up enough negative emotions, then they merge with the doll and become pure hatred locked in a doll (it's also a bit of a parody of the grudge) who is also a voodoo doll which is Banette. Banette isn't all that stable and searches for the one that abandoned it, it also doesn't seem too OK with betrayal. It searches to torture and kill the one that abandoned it and ones who cross it. It's also a bit insane. Because it's also very lonely and can be loyal to those that it does care about (it's hinted at) but it's to a bit of a creepy extent since it's not sane.
It loses it's childlike shyness and personality and becomes a sadistic, lonely, and insane creature. That's sad too.
Then Parasect has a much shorter explanation, it basically becomes a zombie as a Paras the mushrooms and the Paras work together and Paras controls the Mushrooms and can remove them. But Parasect is the Mushroom taking over the bug and mutating it and killing the bug to control the body too.

"Due to the influence of the tochukaso in its growth, the insect's metamorphosis has been stunted and it instead resembles a grotesque, exaggerated version of its former self. Its pincers and legs have grown much larger and the mushrooms on its back have grown together into one giant mushroom. Its eyes have become whited out resembling those of zombies, likely due to its being possessed by the tochukaso."
(That's why it has those wierd eyes.)
It's sad too because it states Paras and the Mushrooms work together (almost like friends.) It's even stated that while the Mushrooms damage others Paras actually get them as gifts.
"Paras is a coconut crab-shaped insectoid creature, with the unique feature of having mushrooms known as tochukaso growing from its back. They grow from spores that are doused on this PokΓ©mon's back at birth by the mushroom on its parent's back. The tochukaso can be removed at any time, although researchers suggest that Paras only do so under extreme measures.
Though tochukaso are parasitic in nature, Paras manages to make use of the mushrooms by creating a semi-symbiotic relationship; the mushrooms draw their nutrients from the host Paras's body in order to grow, and Paras is able to use the mushrooms spores along with its own pincers for self-defense.
Paras may have fairly long life spans, because the tochukaso is known for having properties that are beneficial for longevity."

Oh yeah, I remember reading that about Paras...I felt bad after letting mine evolve in-game. As for Shuppet, I didn't know about it, but that's really intriguing how it's based off of yokai...

Teru teru bozu aren't Yokai. But Banette is vaguely based off a yokai (among other things. Banette is many different cultures combined into one) teru teru bozu are charms people hand to make the rain stop. (Much like singing "rain, rain, go away come again another day". [link] They're really cool and worth looking up.
I always felt bad when I saw a Parasect or caught and evolved one too.
Sweet Cecile's story is looking to be an epic one.

I like your concept of Deino evolution, where a split personality becomes a split head. And if Cecile evolves futher alll the way into hydreigon, then it could be one personality dominating the other to become the main head, while the weaker personality is destoryed to become merely a brainless arm head.

Thanks, and yeah, that was uh...kind of my plan xD However I haven't decided which side will persevere, so that will keep all my readers guessing as well as pave the way for some interesting internal conflict. So yeah, she probably will evolve all the way into a Hydreigon/Sazandora but I'm not totally clear on everything yet since there's a lot I want to do with her as a Zweilous~
Plus Zweilous/Jiheddo is my favorite pokemon from 5th gen heheeeheeee

I keep thinking that this comic looks a little like Japanese woodblock prints and depictions of Yokai. I don't know, it's only vaguely similar.
Evolution is epic. I seriously hope they don't mind evolving outside of the dojo, since I was going to do that too. It's more dramatic and flexible.

Hmm, you know, I can see that now that you mention it. It's like a mix between that and golden-age American comics... well, I really like Yokai illustrations, and they really influenced the way I drew monsters and dragons early on, so that's pretty cool there's a little influence there!

Eh I figure as long as you earned the scroll you can use it to evolve your pokemon how you wish. Plus it's nice to see variation in the process instead of a pokemon always going to Master Foo -> training -> oh wowzers I evolved!! ->Good job young pupil!!
