Description It was a cool day today. No rain. After I finished up in the shop this morning, I decided to climb a mountain for this shot. The wind grew more harsh the higher that I climbed. Remnants of trees scattered across the face of the mountain. Their limbs dry and barren, even in the early days of spring. Each become more like skeletons reaching for me, the closer I came to them. The battering wind, moving them like puppets while I passed their rocky graves.

Red boulders appeared in abundance when I passed the halfway point. I considered stopping here. I should be content... right? Climbing this high should have been enough for me, I tried to convince myself. My eyes continued to travel up toward the summit of this mountain. Be content, I told myself. Something inside of me rejected stopping.

I could see a beaten path to the top, but I refused to take it. My eyes focused on the green moss that was growing on the rocks as I started climbing the boulders. A complicated and tiresome trek. Even as a bead of sweat formed on my brow, I did not regret my decision. The path was too easy. Everyone took that path that wanted to climb this mountain. I slipped and stumbled more than once. The natural placement of rocks forced me to back track from time to time.

I stopped again, near the top of the mountain. Looking out at the land and water so far below me. Remembering how terrified of heights I was. That terror has yet to pass. Still, I continued forward.

When I scaled the last rock, I was out of breath. People stood around the flat top of the mountain. They paid little attention to me as I set to work. I found that it wasn't enough just to be at the top. At one point, I dropped the knife I was taking pictures of. Which did gain me some unwanted attention. It bounced off rocks and landed between a rock and a hard place. When I finished with my pictures, I found a lot of people were looking at me.

Silently, I packed up my work. Across the way I saw another obstacle. A different one. Undeterred by my surroundings, I started towards the next objective.

This is awesome!  Was the wrench chromed?  I thought blacksmithing chrome plated things was dangerous and toxic because of fumes.  How did you go about it?  Great work either way though!

Beautiful blade, and equally beautiful story of how this shot came to be. Your confession of your fear of heights is quite personal. Thank you for that. Your bravery to face that fear produced a lovely image showcasing your hard work, both in the shop and out. I would love to see the view you were able to have this day. I'm sure it was outstanding.

It was crazy! I am so scared of heights. lol. It is kind of dumb that I am. Well I feel like it is. I wanted to take a shot up high of this so bad though. Next time I am going to try to be more prepared though!

Oh, for the feeling of going up!
This took me to some really amazing places.
But be warned: IT'S ADDICTIVE!
anyway, what caused the glow around the blade? Picture looks unnatural.
If you had a tripod up there, I would advise checking some HDR techniques for that.

Wait wait!
You mean to tell me you're making your knives so awesome that they actually glow?!
Should I make an altar and start praying to you?

I'm proud to say I was an ateist up until now...
I might have to review my stand on that topic however
