The Assassin is lovely. Cool background and her hair looks good. I am confused HDRI vs. IBL. Not the same thing?? I took a look at the scrap link. Looks intriguing (crap speller). Did you code IBL into POV-Ray or what?

I think they are the same thing. They just use different image formats. HDRI is just an image format that contains scene information at different exposures. There are not a lot of HDRI image files out there, so I wanted to make something that worked on regular images like Poser's IBL. The code wasn't added to povray. It is a stand alone executable that creates some include files to add to the Povray scene file.

Aye!! Better better - more killer girls!! LOL! I think she looks gorgeous - i like a lot the POV and the overall "look" of your assassin girl - that's too bad for the small rendering artifacts on her front hairs (BTW - cool braid - it fits very well with the character IMO) - i haven't explored much in povray, but in other rendering engines this is often caused by low "sampling rates" (yargh!! sorry if this isn't terribly useful, but my long term memory is rather dusty right now! LOL!) - anyway, that doesn't take away from the cool feeling - very well done!!

Oooooo I haven't been able to figure out where the little squares are coming from. I wish to wage war on them!

I don't see any visible distortion on the fringe hair, so the squares are probably not in the UV map. They could be simply rendering artifacts of some sort, or some error on the reflection rate for that hair. Blending 3 textures in a blending map? Does that mean some sort of textured height map? Poser seems to have something like that since you can load any terrain as geometry and apply some materials to it. You can also deformate the default Poser ground to create terrain, but that usually results in a poorly rendered scene because the Poser ground is too low poly for that purpose. ^^

It is not really a heightfield map. Poser does has something similar. It is the purpose behind the alternate diffuse/specular/other settings. So one could use something like a transparency map to blend between to different diffuse settings/specular/etc. In stead of blending into transparency, you blend into a different texture. However, Poser doesn't allow one to create multiple, complete, independent textures and blend them together. Some settings are shared.

Cool. I don't know what to look for in 3D stuff but I like the pose and the sense of movement.

Thanks! I think you just look for the same things as in other art. Like traditional art, 3D has a technical side. I would hope it doesn't interfere with people's enjoyment of the pictures.
