Description ~3~ Precious little Hugo. He isn't as nearly angsty as you might think. He's actually a pretty nice guy, but he never had many friends growing up so he can be anti-social/socially awkward at times. He is a bit of a shade-ster. His bff is probably his little sister (she is about as adorable as a psychedelic cupcake rainbow unicorn Pegasus on speed...in all the best ways), for lack of interaction with other people.

The red markings in this picture [link] are war paints, so they aren't in this one. He may or may not wear all those piercings.

About his race: The Katar have considerably longer lives than Humans. Males have two ram-like horns, females have a single horn in the middle of their head. They grow in proportion to age (obviously he is very young)

Back story: so much info DX sorry I don't expect anyone to read it all, but I'd love you forever if you did.

Does saying male/female instead of man/woman sound weird? It doesn’t seem fitting to say man/woman to me, because it’s a different race.

A prince born into the Katar society, a race vastly ruled and controlled by females, Hugo was brought up to be the ideal image a Katar male, apologetic and obedient. For the Katar, male children are a rarity, even more so in the royal family. The Katarian Legend of the Origin asserts that males were the root of all hardship for their race, and so this unique society was born. Where as the Human and Felsen race consider women second-class citizens, the Katar revel in the strength their mothers, daughters, and sisters. The women control the politics and military. They are the leaders and warriors, thought this doesn’t mean the Katar society is wholly one sided, as males are still able to accrue positions of power, given the right circumstances.

Although they do not possess the brute strength of their sworn enemies, the demonic race of Felsen, Katar are still measurably stronger than Humans. Due to a fierce revival of an ancient war with the Felsen within the last 150 years, the Katar have been forced to develop war machines that manipulate energy currents to combat the Felsen. This manipulation is what Humans ignorantly call magic. Within the Katar and Felsen cultures, the use of energy currents is millennia old, but they have only just begun to abuse it on a grand scale. Individuals of both the Felsen and Katar races, with their stronger builds, are able to produce this manipulation with intense training.

However, both races are shrinking and dying slowly. They have both turned to Humans as a substitute. While Felsen use Humans as slaves and sacrifices, raiding villages and abducting them as is necessary, the Katar have signed treaties with the various Human city-states. Though the Katars’ motives are far from innocent, they find working with gullible Humans is easier than against them. In recent years, the Katar have actively sought out and recruited (i.e. kidnapped) the few rare Humans with innate abilities to learn energy current manipulation.

This mission is lead singularly by Hugo. As the only son of the Katarian Empress, it is Hugo’s duty to carry out her orders. In truth, the frivolous mission is a form of punishment and banishment for the mere fact that he is male. Hugo does not mind the solitude of his mission because of the isolation he has suffered since childhood. At a young age he was trained in the Katarian Academy in the manipulation of energy currents. He is a skilled warrior, but his true interests lie in the development war machines and airships.

During a regular patrol of the eastern Human coast, Hugo’s flagship came to the aid of a human warship under attack of the Felsen. Easily able to fend off the attackers with superior firepower, the Admiral Prince boarded the Human ship to calculate damages. It is then that a sneak counter attack by the Felsen turned the tide of battle and Hugo’s and Tippit’s fates became intertwined.

oooh nice! I'm sorry I don't have the time to read his entire backstory right now, but I felt I wanted to comment anyway because the image itself caught my eye in an almost dramatic way - I was browsing a bit in your gallery and it just jumped out right at me, so cool!

I really like the colouring and the colour scheme, and the basic shading on the large gems (garnets?) on his collar.
And really nice eyes too!

Thanks X3 That back story is sooo long, so don't even worry about it. And yes, I was going for something similar to garnets, I just love them

i see that your lines are hand-drawn. there's an easier option to create sharper, clean line by creating a path in photoshop and using the default brush as stroke. and you can change the thickness by increasing the size of the brushe.
you did well with the skin tones!

i hope i made it clear for you to read and hope you find it helpful!

yes, just hold down alt(pc) or apple command to make a new path, or hold down shift. basically its pretty damn good and you could do your entire lineart in a single path. and use eraser to work those lines from think to thick. this is just my own personal suggestion, everyone has different techniques doing it.

aww. he's adorable. and yes, i too read his backstory. it's so interesting and unique that he's a prince, and yet sent on a "frivolous" mission as a punishment. nice twist.

Those horns are really adorable.
And his backstory is pretty cool. It makes me curious about the Felsen.
