Talk or Drive. Don't Do Both
Found the article here: [link]

So, I had a little accident on the road today, someone on the road banged into my car, and insisted it was my fault because I cut into his lane (utterly untrue, I am pretty certain he was the one who tried to cut into my lane, he probably just wanted to take advantage of the fact that I'm a young and new driver). Luckily, there was no serious damage, but the scratches and marks on my car made my pretty pissed. I didn't take down his particulars mainly because the guy assured me pretty quickly that there was 'no damage', but I should have known better. -grumbles-

-rant end-

And then I recalled this guy who was talking consistently on the phone on the road the other day, and decided to do a little piece of work.

Here you go.

I've been on the road, and I've been frightened many times by cars coming straight from me because they're on the phone and they don't see me, or them swerving on the road. It's unnerving.

When I see people on the phone and driving usually they're driving too slow, I may have had a few people that almost hit me though.

It dosen't help that windows on modern cars are getting smaller and smaller, I was one the highway once and almost thought that a newer Camaro was going to sideswipe me due to the things width and tiny side windows.

I KNOW.
Some of the newer cars have smaller windows and you can't really see out of them really well. x-x

Eep.

Dwig In reply to Lokiev [2012-09-21 17:27:02 +0000 UTC]

Yea, it isn't really even safety or anything either. Its clear that car designers not only design the outside (then use the same inside as another car), but they probably don't even drive their own cars.

Its silly when even cars like Yugos begin to have merits that you can't find on far more technology advanced cars.

Lokiev In reply to Dwig [2012-09-21 17:39:13 +0000 UTC]

I had to get used to the blindspots in my cars and stuff like that, and learn to look out more carefully on those smaller windows or areas that are blocked by the car frame.

I haven't actually heard of Yugos. o: I don't think they have them where I am.

Dwig In reply to Lokiev [2012-09-21 19:55:36 +0000 UTC]

Yugos are small cars that were known for being junk.

Blindspots are purely the result of stylists just for the sake of bragging with themselves, "Look at the swoopy lines, the aggressive face, that angry stance".

I drive nothing but cheap old cars, they may be slow and lack todays "sporty handling" but I don't need a camera for when I back up.

Lokiev In reply to Dwig [2012-09-22 02:50:32 +0000 UTC]

I can't even drive cheap old cars without spending a bomb. In my country, cars have to be scrapped once they are ten years old. If you want to retain the car, you'll have to pay a fee for it (and it's not cheap).

So basically, you don't see any classic cars or any of the really gorgeous old ones here on the road. It's all the same new cars.

That stinks, though if they're trying to reduce congestion they should use decent city lay-outs and more biycles.

Here in the US you almost have to have a car and a license to make a living, unless if you live in the city.

Our suburbs are generally pretty congested, laid out badly (stores are far from houses), and home to SUVs that want to run you down.

Lokiev In reply to Dwig [2012-09-22 07:00:10 +0000 UTC]

The way to reduce congestion for them is to raise the prices of everything. The prices for cars here are absolutely insane.

I understand, because you guys have a large country. I suppose in Singapore you don't really /need/ it, but it /is/ more convenient and everything. We have a brilliant transport system, though, so that's cool.

We have clearly laid out roads and stuff (Singapore's just really tiny, so basically everything is laid out really nicely because the government can) so at least traffic rules and roads are in good condition.

Dwig In reply to Lokiev [2012-09-22 23:58:01 +0000 UTC]

Thats good, here in the US our public transportation is way too minimum compared to the country, our cities are laid out well but our millions of Suburbs must've been laid out by Aliens or something.

Lokiev In reply to Dwig [2012-09-23 09:14:46 +0000 UTC]

I guess it's difficult to lay out subways or buses everywhere because it's just so big. But on the plus side, your cars and fuels are relatively cheaper, I think. (:

Dwig In reply to Lokiev [2012-09-23 21:02:52 +0000 UTC]

Thats all true, people here always complain about gas but I always say "Then you shouldn't have brought an SUV!".

xD It's like. For me, 40L (I think my car is 40L for a full tank) is approximately 90SGD, which is 73USD, I think. o:

I love this.
I think you'll be an amazing graphic designer. (I mean, depending on how you interpret that phrase it might appear a little odd.)

And, I'm not certain how many ways that can be interpreted, but from what I can tell, thank you.

Haha, I just meant as in I think you have a good future in graphic design, but I guess you could already take on the name graphic designer because you do graphic design, just not professionally. xD Sorry about that, and no problem.

Looks rather exaggerated (the pic), but certainly does convey the message across. Aint half bad.

Lokiev In reply to RaishaGS [2010-08-16 02:50:27 +0000 UTC]

xD Well, like in drama, exaggeration's the key. My drama teacher constantly tells us 'YOU HAVE TO MAKE YOUR ACTIONS THREE TIMES AS LARGE!!'. xD

aliccce92 [2010-08-15 21:45:48 +0000 UTC]

It's true though. I don't have the license, but it can be proved quite simply by taking cell phone + computer as an example (quite nerdy though! xD) . When someone calls me and I'm reading something on the screen, I can't focus on the things being said on the phone while reading. When I'm focusing on the phone, I can't focus real good on the screen. And you need full attention when driving, something you won't get by talking at the same time.

Lokiev In reply to aliccce92 [2010-08-16 02:51:20 +0000 UTC]

Haha, I'll agree with you on the laptop and phone bit as well! And, well, yeah. There has to be a reason why there's a law against using the phone and driving. x-x
