L on left, Raito on right. Death Note fan art. To be submitted to Orangetangerine's contest. You can find DN scanslations here: [link] (direct downloads available if you sift through the forums).i like drawing stuff at non-eye level. perspective was eyeballed though, so it's probably horribly off. luckily my background was lazy (curtains). not much more to say, except that this particular style of coloring is horrible and tedious, and my arms hurt now (but not because of it).
Painter 8 - orig size 2001 x 1658 (after crop) - time guestimate 5-6 hrs (working large is overrated and almost a waste of time)

i wish i knew how to use painter.
anyways, the neck muscle goes upwards,
ummm the one that connects the collar bone. it connects behind the jaw. akira toriyama's dbz characters is an example off the top of the head.
check out some anatomy books~
the muscle is called sterno-cleido-mastiod...I THINK.
i think l's nose is fine, but raito's bothers me a little, in the nostril.

It's been a long time since I did this, like one or two years ago, so I can't remember exactly what i do. if i remember correctly, i lay down the colors i want and block out the basic shapes, then i make a light sketch and start refining by defining shadows/highlights with a slightly smeary round brush.. finally i add the lines with a more opaque cover pencil.

I like the quality of color on this, it's really got a pleasing range of muted shades. I agree on working large, I can't really understand what it does for my colorations except when I'm working on something that has a splatter effect, or something. Iunno. I like the perspective also, very fun angle to work with.
