Description This Runestave is handcarved from Rowan wood harvested at Beltane. The symbols were used in Icelandic sorcery in the Middle Ages. The symbols protect from evil and harm entering your home. To empower the charm I've painted the symbols with a mixture of eco-friendly red pigment and my own handmade Dragon's Blood and Rowan magical oil (available for sale in the shop). There is a hole drilled into the back so you can hang this charm on a nail. To protect your house this runestave is best hung above the main entry door in your house - inside or outside of the house doesn't matter - it depends on if you want your neighbours to see it or not!

For those who are witchcraft practitioners or of a less squeamish breed, the traditional Icelandic method of preparing this charm is to paint the symbols with blood taken from your hand. This will bind the charm to you and your home as well as "activate" it. For those who are squeamish, the Dragon's blood in the pigment used to paint the charm will do as a substitute for your own. I would, however, recommend sleeping with it under your pillow for at least one night before hanging it up.

Rowan is a wood of great power that has been used for a thousand years, if not more, in magic to add efficacy and potency to spells and charms. The Norse, Scots and Irish are most well known for using Rowan in magic and spellwork. The Norse used Rowan to carve bindrunes and runestaves with, making this an authentic traditional charm.

Lovely! I'm wondering what sort of runes you bound to make it, though. I don't recognize anything from the Elder Futhark, which is what I'm familiar with.

I need my hands for my crafting, but my crafting is what causes injuries. I usually always cut my thumbs - thumbs bleed profusely from tiny surface cuts and they heal really fast, I never have to use bandaids. The old Icelandic spells were pretty specific about which body parts. If you're going to use blood, I'd follow the spell, but this is coming from a semi-stuffy traditional witch. Ah, those Icelanders, gruesome but fun!

blood from the hand is preferred, but as stated the dragons blood is a good sub, so from the arm is just as good. its were i get all the blood i need when doing personal work, otherwise i use bats blood ink. yes made from bat.
