How did you get the tassets' leather to be stiff?

this kind of leather(buffalo) is naturally very stiff. I had to boil it in the water many times(*sigh*) for mold the form of the hips

I love the scaled vest and the belt. I made a wide war belt for my Orc recently so I know how much of a pain they are. Yours is cool with the short tassets.
