Part of monthly challenge 12, this is themed to Rankin Bass, the duo responsible for the holiday specials we get on TV every single year since 1964. I specifically went with the ladies, Clarice from Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer, Karen from Frosty the Snowman, and Miss Jessica (aka Mrs. Claus) from Santa Claus is Coming to Town. Originally, I also wanted to add Elisa from Jack Frost, but I had a hard time pinpointing the exact time period the story takes place in (although the beginning is set in modern times, by 1979 standards) and what country January Junction is located in (though I was thinking anything Russian being that the villain of the special, Kupla Klaus is dubbed the Kossac King).
Anywho, I aged up Karen to be a teenager and kept the core elements of her outfit, the red coat (a little bit more stylish, she is visiting Frosty and Crystal in my headcanon), ear-muffs, and blue gloves and boots but paired with a pair of off white pants. Jessica on the other hand, I originally thought Natural Form era for her outfit (and tried looking for examples of winter ensembles from the late 1870s and early 1880s) but then when I went ahead and started drawing her dress, I ended up doing Second Bustle Era. Ultimately, I went with a winter 1886 ensemble in her color scheme (blue/blue gray and gold, yea it's shortly after she left Sombertown) and kept her hair down as seen in her musical number (which is very 1970s psychedelic). Clarice, surprisingly, was the easiest as she is a doe (female reindeer) and my style kinda ended up translating very well to the Rankin Bass art style. I set the setting in the North Pole (mostly the Christmas tree forest scene from Santa Claus if Coming to Town) with lots of red, green, and gold lights, though I did have to vignette it a bit and increase the main shadow points.
