Description

Mark is a lake mermaid. This was the result of a pun that doesn’t translate into English. In Dutch a mermaid is a zeemeermin. It starts with the word zee which means sea. Basically, the word says that mermaid live in the sea. But I thought ‘why only in the sea, why not in other waters’. The other words are the words for more (meer) and less (min). But meer is also the word for lake. So, a lake mermaid is a meermeermin, and I think that just sounds funny.

But Mark is the prince of this kingdom. He is also the god-soul of swords. He tries to be friends with everyone and is pretty laid back.

I drew a little sketch of his water form next to his land form.

Some information about the world

There are two worlds, earth where non-magical creatures live and Umari where magical creatures live. There are two different groups, humans and magies. Humans lack an organ, orel, and because of that can’t use magic. Magies are magical creatures like elves, fairies and dwarves. Human-likes are magical but look exactly like humans and have no special abilities like other magies.

In this world the soul goes through a cycle of rebirth, normal souls are reborn every few centuries, strong souls are reborn more often. Normally there is one soul in everybody, sometimes there are second and third souls. They can be like parasites or helping the main soul.

Magies need magic to live, humans die from magic exposure. Magies have a magical intake and output. The amount of magic they take in over a certain amount of time, the amount they use to survive for that amount time and the amount that leaks out into their surroundings. A bit like radiation.

This world has thirty gods.

There are thirty special people, these are the god-souls. God-souls have the soul of god in them besides their own soul. This give them the watered-down powers of their god.

If there is too much magic in a body than magic crystallization happens. Depending on how much magic is in the body is how much crystals form. Normally it only on the body around the orel or body part that is used a lot for magic. In rare cases it can take over a whole town.

Backstory

Mark is the first child of the king and queen of Salva (kingdom of the lake mermaids). Mark was three years old when they discovered he was a god-soul. The armies of mermaids are usually bad, so they were afraid that they couldn’t protect him from the black magies. He was taken from his parents by the counsel to start training early. Here he stayed for three years. After three years he was sent to the same school as Loïs1 whoever the god-soul was.

He lived with a foster family that raised him as their own. This went alright for another six years. Then the black magies murdered all his foster family except his little sister. He went back to Umari but couldn’t stay with his friends and had to go back to training again.

When Loïs created her own kingdom, Mark became a special citizen as he didn’t lose his real family and already had a home besides Campherbeek. But his friends missed him, and he still lost some form of family, so he still became a Campherbeeker.

When he was fifteen, they he and the other god-souls discover that the letters of their family were faked. They all escaped the training grounds to visit their families. Mark went together with Loïs to his home. There he discovered that the palace was taken over by sewage mermaids and his sister would be forced to marry their prince. That would result in Maria taking over the kingdom and it falling in the enemies hands. Mark and Loïs get help from the sea mermaids. They defied the sewage mermaids and save Maria from marriage. His parents go back to ruling the country.
