Description Man, Project Horizons is so good, it makes FOE look pathetic in comparison.

I prefer Fallout Equestria over Project Horizons mainly because PH's plotline gets very, very intricate and confusing

Too many things to keep track of

over 3500 pages and still going

......i take offense to that be honest. it is good but it is inferior to fallout equestria ultimately in execution. especially at the latter half to the point of............... oooh the pain, it just abandons one of the seris more powerful themes. by making it tht a mastermind is behind the end, it just takes the impact of this world and stabs it till its dead. the ruined earth that they stride upon has someone to blame for it being that way in this case.......... and before, there is no one beign who came be blamed, can be placed on trial and killed as repentance. not fluttershy, not luna, not twilight, and not some implanted for the fic character. everyone is to blame, yet no one can be blamed.
that is a power far beyond a mastermind. instead of some evil puppetmaster, we have the worse possible thing happen; those with good intention opening the portal to hell.

that and about ninety character assassinations that makes me want to charge somber with political homicide. celestia, twilight, rarity, now fucking luna? if you removed nearlly all this uneeded, useless filler ina failed attempts to one up the original story, it is still the same story. a better story in fact. with what happens with luna, it has gone too far and fell backwards waaaay on my rating scale. making her that way, that wicked........... unnecessary to the extreme and shows ignorance i would damn argue. that is evil, not misguided. not to mention utterly ignoring like all of her experiences as nightmare moon and what happened. you can hve her escalate, but there is no need for hitler.

would still say the original is much better, but sitll pink eyes is probably the strongest recurssive fic out there.

Uhh PH is almost as good as the original and definitely doesn't make it look pathetic. It's a very close second only because it hasnt ended yet.

Well, give me some reasons on why that is. Make comparison, or provide a bullet point list. Something to convince me.

Well... I had a LOT of gripes with original FOE. PH might be plagued with angst, but it handles so many things better. It even covers some dodgy moments of the original fanfic (Alicorn behaviour and hive-mind structure, why Twilight hires her rival for dangerous secret project without checking her background, why raiders act so inequine, etc.)
I have a friend that prompted me to read FOE and PH and we discussed every chapter after I completed it. I understand that liking things is subjective, but there's no way that FOEΒ isΒ objectively better than PH.Β

................. you do realize that.......... that that is complerely retarded reasoning, right?
for one thing, most of the raiders were not cannibals. true they were deranged, and murderous, but that is because the wasteland broke them. some were not even that violent, but the ones that are completely out of it were the ones who stand out the most. the equine are capable of violence to begin with, and these are guys who lost all sanity and rely solely on violence to live.
hell think about it, the only ponies we are certain were cannibalistic were very normal ponies on the surface. they were not deranged raiders, and it seems that at large their tradition was solely out of survival. hell in part kkat did far better than fallout by making it that the tradition started from desperation, and even more so made this a totally horrific event instead of something one can call just action.
also tiwlight never, ever viewed trixie as a rival. if anything trixie was another number on the board to tiwlight, after she had made certain her experiments could be safely done on equine subjects.

by making them adisease, the raiders lose all impact as what they are. broken souls. those without hope. not to mention that that if it was a disease then littlepip would have caught it since her stolen armor was soaked in raider blood.

that is the weakness of ph. it tries to one up the original, and fails. i can accept the idea that blackjack could have convinced littlepip to take a mintal to convince red eye. but what does somber do? little pip tries to keep the restore equestria project secret? somber goes fuck ou, the goddess already knew. spike never leaves his cave? somber says fuck you kkat, he left to cave to save my character. littlepip enters the machine? fuck you kkat my character is dealing with an orbital cannon. also i made luna evil, fucked over your idea of portals to hell and all, cause i can do better with blatant things than you did with your subtlety.

I thought having raiders be a disease wasn't as good. The idea that the wasteland would drive ponies insane drives home the grimmdarkness.

Character death.

THE FOLLOWING CONTAINS SPOILERS! LOOK AWAY CHILDREN! TURN A BLIND EYE!

In Fallout Equestria, Steelhooves' death comes as a complete surprise. He's killed mid-sentence at a time when the heroes assumed they were out of danger. It marks the beginning of the story's darkest hour and drives home the reality that any of them can die, even the strongest and seemingly invincible. Killing him off in that way cuts his character arc short, but it also helps develop Littlepip's character and inspire others to follow his legacy.

In Project Horizons, it would be easier to list the named, developed and likable characters that don't die. The first was probably Scoodle. Her death set the tone for the rest of the story that absolutely anyone can and probably will die. And it's all Blackjack's fault. That in and of itself isn't bad. It serves as development and motivation for Blackjack and helps shape her into the angsty self-destructive juggernaut we know and love. The problem is that after a certain point I just stopped bothering to emotionally connect with any characters that got introduced since chances were good they'd be dead a chapter later. And any time you start thinking the Eight Deadly Words , it's never a good sign.

I like Project Horizons. I like Blackjack and Rampage and P-21 and Glory and the rest. I just can't bring myself to read it anymore.

One of the things that bugged me aboutΒ Project Horizons, and to a lesser extend Fallout Equestria, is that characters don't die.

In Fallout Equestria, it's just that they don't die. Every member of the mane cast except two (one of whom barely joined at the time) didn't die. That seems kind of unlikely, given the circumstances.

Project Horizons has characters keep almost dying. There is more than one mane character who has appeared to have died more than once. A relative of a character, who isn't even really that important, has appeared to have died, but not actually died. We've had Blackjack driven insane because she killed a pony, and then found out that the pony was still alive.

If a majorΒ characterΒ dies, I'm not sad, not because I don't care about them, but because they're probably not dead. Cliffhangers lose their potency if they keep happening, and nopony ever dies.

competence. that is what let them survive. competence. you cannot say any of them are incopetent in their abilities.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DCarrier In reply to Lordoffantasy [2014-05-14 05:36:06 +0000 UTC]

First off, they didn't start competent. Second, competence doesn't guarantee survival. If, at any time, one of them suffered a critical hit from a magical energy weapon, they'd be dead. If one of them was shot in the head with any but the lowest caliber weapons, they'd be dead.

If someone didn't come at exactly the right time to rescue the falling Morning Glory, she'd be dead. If she didn't get a critical hit on the Angel of Death strangling Blackjack, she'd be dead.

I'm quite the opposite in that regard. The idea that a character in a book can die, especially the one that I really care about, gets me excited. I read so many books, seen so many stories and so rarely any kind of mortal danger will inflict permanent damage on a character, or kill someone from the main cast for good. Wastend is a freaking death-trap, and when you reading a story about devious adventurers, it only makes sense that yeah, someone can actually die while facing its horrors. The absence of real threat behind the dangerous encounter kind of devalues it's purpose, so... yeah.
Game of Thrones and Attack on Titan are awesome for this exact reason.

To a degree I agree with you. I guess it really is just a matter of opinions. And maybe my opinion will change if and when Project Horizons finishes. Until then, it's still second to the original in my book.
