Description Since last fall I'm employed at 25% as an illustrator at a Swedish publisher of games and books, while also having a regular dayjob. This illustration is for one of their projects, "Storytale Adventures", which is a fantasy RPG for kids. It's currently being translated for publication on the English-language market.

I will probably see an English version of the game on Drive-Thru RPG site before too long. A RPG aimed for the elementary-school age set would have been a boon to me some time ago. It seems like great fun, a mixture of traditional fairy/hero tales, basic D&D, and some TV shows I watched as a much younger person!Β Β

You just summed up my influences for my art for this game. I guess prog rock album covers could be in there too

If the book said "monsters provided by Jim Henson studios" it would have made my day! Β

The game is great fun, but for me it's been a loooot of overtime working on this project. All through 2017 and quite a bit of 2018. That's why I haven't been posting stuff here all that often.

Β I have to say the expression on that young swordsman's face seems less "Hope I don't slip or I'll be eaten" and more "If I slip then that hornswoggled is getting SERIOUS indigestion" which makes me love this image all the more - since it gives Old Red Terror there the air of perpetual optimism coupled with thoughtless greed one sees on the face of every dog that ever lurked beneath the dinner table!Β

I think the young dungeon crawler has been there before; it's not his first monster jump

The kids are fun, but I love that cave creature. Β It reminds me of Tsothoggua, but with more personality.Β  Yes, I can see kids getting into a game featuring critters like this one.Β Β

The monster is lind of like Tsathoggua, but I didn't realize that as I was drawing the image. The monster is a demon, which in this game are creatures born out of a chaotic creation process in a parallell dimension. Sometimes they get stuck in the world of the game and cause mischief. Kind of Lovecraftian, I guess.

I can imagine a Lovecraftian tale for kids coming out of this. They seek to send the demon Tuggasudsud back to his dimension.Β Β

That monster design is superb.Β  It balances a true amount of horror with a childishness that fits the piece perfectly.Β  At first glance, it's a simple monster a child would dream up.Β  Then you look closer, and it becomes a true horror.Β

I love it!

That's high praise for a monster I dreamed up while feeling bored one morning But I do try to add details that'll make my monster characters stick in your head, especially if you're a kid.

The game is actually selling really well in the gaming community in Sweden, so we have high hopes for the international market.

It is pretty cool It was constructed by a friend of mine and his (at the time) 9 year-old daughter. It's full of weird monsters and clever scenarios.

Besides being a traditional RPG, it also has a lot of traditional storytelling aspects, with riddles and intricate plots. It's been used in schools to encourage shy kids to be more verbal.
