Thanks! My childhood mind was boiling with mysterious alien beasties when watching this sequence in the serial. Now I've let them out of my skull!

The fact is, I can't think of an all-bad 3d Doctor adventure; I like them all! What do you think about the special edition versions of old serials, where they've added CGI spaceships, laser effects from guns, etc?
I recently watched the spec ed version of Day of the Daleks, where they've added more Daleks and Ogrons, and lots more explosions and other effects. It did add quite a bit to the visual side of the serial, and therefore also, the drama at the end battle. The producer of this spec ed brought up an interesting point: This is how I remember it as a kid. His mind, as well as the minds of lots of other people, had added those laser beams and extra Daleks, which really weren't there at all in the original version. The spec ed made the serial what it was in his childhood mind, which I think is justifiable.

We'll still have the original broadcast versions of old TV shows. If we're displeased with the "improved" versions, we can always go back to those.Β

KIDS! The horror...the horror.
Dr. Who doesn't float my boat, but this piece does.

It's too bad the Dr. Who budget didn't cover more than noises and glowing eyes. These creatures would have really amped up the horror. Β

Oh, you certainly do have to applaud them.Β They made do with what they had and still managed to produce a good show. Β

When I think of Dr. Who, I think of Jon Pertwee. Excellent job here, you've really captured the feeling of terror well.

Thank you! Yes, he's one of my favorites too. Almost all of Pertwees stuff is really good.

You should do your own Doctor Who episode. Personally, I find the mutated biota of Skaro an interesting subject.

I am going to do an illustration of those Skaro monsters at some point, and I have been toying with the idea of making a Β all-stopmotion YouTube video about Daleks vs mutated monsters on Skaro. I'm a little hesitant, due to BBC copyright issues, but I might go ahead with it eventually.

Well, wouldn't it fall into fair use?

Mmm...Don't know actually. But it seems the BBC have been very lenient with fan productions. There are lots of them on YouTube.

Pertwee is certainly the most Bond-like of all the Doctors, mainly working for a defense organisation, being sent as an agent by the Timelords to all corners of the universe, with cars and gadets, etc.
I think we can look back on all eras of Doctor Who and imagine what might've been with bigger budgets. Unfortunately, it'll have to be only in our imaginations.
