I love the useless boyfriend standing there screaming as the young lovely gets eaten. You're a lot of use, pal.

True, true...

The Carpet Monster is probably wishing he'd shut up. "Can't I even eat in peace?"

Dumb as all get-out but for some reason I loved this movie as a kid. Maybe because unlike all those other monster movies, in this one we saw people getting eaten, on screen!

Well, they're kind of eaten..

There was also seeing all those young lovelies getting slurped down head first, wriggling and kicking. Even as a kid I wondered what was going on with the director.

Amazing rendition of a godawful monster!

One of my favourite things to do with terrible monster movies such as this is try to imagine a way for a monster and plotline such as this to be actually scary. Could you remake this movie in a way that makes both the creature and the movie terrifying? Oftentimes, the answer is, surprisingly, yes.

For instance, I have this idea for the Terror that it actually has some kind of mind control ability built in as part of its bioengineered nature. That's why people can't seem to run away from it, and why they crawl inside it: they're being compelled to by the creature, and yet are fully aware of their actions, even as they force themselves into the creature's maw.

Get some decent practical effects and up the characterisation, and IMO you would have a genuinely creepy monster flick.

I also have ideas for others, like Robot Monster (my favourite B-movie monster of all time), Horror of Party Beach, Hobgoblins, heck, even Monster A Go-Go I can see working if it played into a more psychological/cosmic horror vibe, and played its blatant cinematic failings for horror instead of just basic ineptitude.

What do you think?

You need to be making movies in Hollywood with those ideas. I am not joking.

...Yeah, I like you.

Mind going into some more detail about this idea? I remember hearing a theory that the monster of Party Beach was called up by a voodoo doll that you see in the background of several shots, and Adiraiju has done something similar with his 9 Plans series.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

CyberPhoenix001 In reply to Lediblock2 [2018-12-20 10:07:20 +0000 UTC]

I've heard that theory as well; I'm assuming you're referring to KingBeauregard's comment on The Horror - 817.

What aspects would you like more detail on? Just so you know, my idea isn't really a theory as it pertains to the original film in the same way that KB's comment could be seen as a new perspective on the events of Party Beach; it's more of a brainstorm on taking aspects that could conceivably derived from the original film and building upon them in a re-imagined version of the film, as there's aspects of the original that don't line up with my idea (the hippie with the guitar fighting back for instance).

Say, for instance, I did the same for the Horror of Party Beach: I wouldn't get rid of the weird, sausage-things in the creature's mouths, despite the poster and the photo-comic changing them to fangs; I would remake them into extendible pseudo-tentacles covered in invisible barbs, so that when they wrap around someone's limbs or face, the flesh gets cleaved off and shredded as it's pulled off and consumed.

Lediblock2 In reply to CyberPhoenix001 [2019-01-13 16:53:28 +0000 UTC]

Wait, idea for the Party Beach bois: What if those tentacles are instead covered in stinging nematocysts like with jellyfish, injecting paralytic venom into their prey for later consumption?

Ohohoho, man, I have so many ideas!

I agree that with the right vision, the concepts of these old monster flicks could absolutely be remade in a scary way.

As a comedy it is so but the worst movie I saw was when I was in the Navy and we stopped in a French Island and went to see a monster movie about rats attacking people. It was in French and we couldn't understand a word said but watching it we got the idea. It was so bad that the manager and us was the only ones in the theater watching it, we laughed through it which pissed off the manager.

I don't go out of my way to see really bad movies, but The Creeping Terror has someΒ hypnotic hold over me.Β  If it's on TV, I'll sit and watch it, mesmerized, with drool trickling from my mouth.Β  I think it has what some role-playing games call negative charisma -- not beauty, attractivenessΒ orΒ personality, like Charisma, but a weird, will-draining awe that keeps you there when you would rather run away.

Good thing it's fictional, or I'd end up crawling into its mouth!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Loneanimator In reply to Amarok59 [2017-03-24 09:27:57 +0000 UTC]

That is the lure of z-grade movies, or the definition of "so bad it's good". One of my favorite movies of all time is "Robot Monster". It shouldn't be, but it is. I think there is also something weirdly intimite about bad movies. They flaunt their faults in our view with an honesty that can be very endearing.

Yes, that was a crappy Movie. The monster was so slow and noisy, so logically it would not have been able to Catch anything. But all how saw it seems to be paralysed
with fear until it reached them and then they crawled into its mouth screaming.
