This reminds me of that issue of Alan Moore's Saga of the Swamp Thing with the submerged town of aquatic vampires.

I haven't gotten that far in the Moore saga yet. I'm buying the collected issues when I can find them.

Thanks for the chills. Ever since I had an argument with a shark about what was, and what was not, on the menu; I have been unable to voluntarily enter water where I can't see the bottom. Add that to having a neighbor try to drown me, the Court said it was attempted murder, and a magnificent phobia can result.

There is not much to say. The drawing is great and I enjoyed it, my fears having been dulled by years.

I absolutely love this!  It encapsulates that fear of going in water where you can't see the bottom!  Chilling!

For some reason this makes me think of some TV feature describing the some potential peril to the Health and Safety of the Public, with the traditional "Now remember to be careful children or you too will suffer a grotesquely instructive Fate that will make others take heed and shudder to think of it."

Keep the Good Work Lone Animator!

Alas the days of scaring audiences straight would appear to have gone down in the West with the sunset - no longer shall we be permitted to traumatise small children for the sake of Health & Safety. Truly, ours is a fallen age!

(If anyone took that at all seriously then please let me know - I have some lovely beachfront property in Mali to sell you).

I'm suddenly remembering the Paiute legend of "The Water Babies" from Pyramid Lake in Nevada....

Amazing (and frightening) work!

A bunch of Nevada monster legends, especially around lakes.   The white explanation for them is that they were deformed children discarded to keep the tribe strong (probably an extrapolation of greco-roman practices), but the Paiute state they were there all along as spirit beings that you had to sacrifice gifts of corn to.
