Lately I've been finding myself inexplicably inspired by my homeland's mythology and ancient culture.
This character was inspired by a statuette idol I remember very vividly from my middle school history books. sta.sh/0dck1tetkb6

Found in the ancient ruins of Knossos on the island of Crete by the british archaeologist Arthur Evans, this idol and others of its kind
date back to 1700-1450 BC, during the Minoan civilization, aka the people to whom we attribute the legend of the Minotaur!
It's unclear if the idols are depicting a goddess of snakes, the earth or an everyday priestess, or if they are even depicting the
same individual at all. In any case, I felt the mighty need to make a character out of her, and here she is! I tried something new
with my artstyle and I think I'm very happy with how she turned out. I also got to test my new sketchbook, and boy can this
paper take a lot of punishment. It might not be entirely ideal for colored pencils, but it can hold ink and watercolor extremely well.
I think I'm going to name her Ophelia, since "ophion" (όφιον) is ancient Greek for "serpent". More to come x
