Description
I know this is well after the fact, the calendar conspired against me to get this so I could post it...
Stan Lee, who I had often said was Marvel's biggest fanboy, was apparently not doing well at all when he passed away on November 12th, 2018. I do have to admit his passing was one of three celebrity deaths that hit me pretty hard, especially since I was a huge fan of his work for over half my life now. His work on taking heroes that are fairly powerful and giving them an all too human angle was something that appealed to me early on. Watching the X-Men cartoon in the early 90's was my first exposure to his work, seeing a team that had amazing powers taking on just about everything under the sun in costume but then having friction between parts of the team at home along with the wonder if you're actually doing any good was entirely new to me at the time.
As you might have noticed I decided to add a couple of my characters to this tribute piece, it helps that they were inspired by Marvel Comics. On the left we have Arachnia, a spider themed heroine that has to deal with a general public that doesn't like her that much...the fact she tends to break 45% of a criminal's bones on average doesn't help. The joys of anger issues and trying to find a place for herself in the world. Moving to the right is Polygirl, genius for days with the social skills of week old pudding. You put her in a lab on a Monday and check back in on Wednesday to see how much of the universe she's figured out before she sees the 5 large pizzas you brought with you since you know she's forgotten to eat during that time. And then finally on the right we have Warbuster's pilot out of the armor and being serious for the first time that's he ever had the spotlight in my gallery. The rest of the time he's a lot more outgoing when he's wrapped in a couple of feet of heavy armor and bullets for days, take the armor off and he's just a guy...that's it.
I have probably rambled here but the main thing is the fact that he's gone means the world is a little less bright. A colorful character that created dozens of colorful characters that inspired a couple generations of people to try to do bigger and better things.
The old business hopes he rests in peace:
