Just an idea I had floating around in my head. I often consider myself one because I don't "follow the herd" on many things, (some of which others see as verboten). My examples include:

* Do art or customs that are out of the ordinary
* Supports Equestria Girls, and hopes EqG is made solidly canon in FiM (like Sunset appearing in an episode)
* Welcomes new alicorn characters
* Not into clop or anthro.
* Supports Flash Sentry
* Has no problem with how people make their OC's
* Sees no problem with bronies who can't afford show accurate plushie customs getting Onlyfactory ones,

And has views/opinions on other things not shared by most of the fandom (both related and not related to the show).
