Just a randomly selected idea from my overwhelmingly massive list of things I want to draw. I have more ideas than I could ever complete in a lifetime. I'm trying to figure out a way that I can actually follow through with more of my ideas. So I started doing this exercise where I have to think of at least 20 elements/keywords for any given idea.

Once you exhaust all the ideas off the top of your head you really have to think and dig around for inspiration, and that's when the more interesting and unexpected ideas start to appear. Usually when I get to that point I'll start surfing Pinterest for ideas which is incredibly helpful. It's also just a fun exercise even if I don't plan on actually drawing out the idea, just coming up with a bunch of keywords.

After coming up with at least 20 keywords I pick 1-3 main elements and another 1-3 minor elements. For this drawing the main keywords were "astral projection", "multicolored souls", and "cave painting constellations". The detail keywords were "artifacts", "starry sky", and "animals". Some things were changed or omitted along the way, but those ideas helped me get to the end result. This was a pretty experimental artwork so I didn't spend a long time on it.

I watch a LOT of art videos on Youtube, but they generally don't cover the parts I'm most interested in seeing, which is the conception of the idea and the very beginning of the drawing. It usually skips ahead to the lineart or coloring stage (I am very guilty of this in my older videos). If you know any channels that do show these stages, please let me know!
