Perfect costume, perfect makeup, perfect pose... Hm. I guess you're just perfect!

*sigh* I was going to do some Commedia del'Arte characters, but you had to go and raise the bar... Guess I've got my work cut out for me, huh? I love your version of Pierrot -- especially the makeup.

Speaking of which, what did you use for your white base?

LongStock In reply to Onnagata-stock [2006-11-13 20:03:31 +0000 UTC]

You always have the nicest comments - and thank you for the fave, too.

I google imaged Pierrot and just picked my favorite makeup to copy. I think this was a doll, rather than an actor.
As for the makeup, I used regular Halloween white grease paint (the cheap stuff). I wouldn't recommend using that, though. It took about seven or eight layers to get it opaque, and I had to keep reapplying throughout the shoot because it would just vanish all by itself. If you can get your hands on any better quality makeup, you should, just to save youself the aggravation of working with this stuff.
Which characters were you thinking about doing? I don't think I'll be doing anymore so I'm not worried about copying, I'm just fascinated by Commedia del'Arte and curious about what you might do. I've always wanted to see the puppet show but, somehow, I've never gotten a chance to. I'm keeping my eye out, though.
Have you seen Les Enfants du Paradis? [link] There are some pretty awesome costumes that would be great for reference.

Onnagata-stock In reply to LongStock [2006-12-06 00:50:00 +0000 UTC]

I've not seen "Les Enfants du Paradis" before -- I will definitely look for it.

As for which characters I might try to do... well, right now I think I'm suitable only for Punchinello . Which is all right. After I lose some significant weight and work out some more, I might try to do something with Brighella/Mezzatin, since he's my favorite.

Personally, I think you'd do a fabulous job as Columbina or Franceschina, because you're just gorgeous and talented. And fun. Which pretty much sums those characters up, I guess.

I'm fascinated by the Commedia del'Arte too -- for quite some time, I've wanted to put together a Commedia troupe to perform at local Rennaisance Faires, etc...

LongStock In reply to Onnagata-stock [2006-12-06 16:30:22 +0000 UTC]

That Commedia troupe for Ren faires is a great idea. I hope you can manage it.

Onnagata-stock In reply to LongStock [2006-12-07 11:05:05 +0000 UTC]

Some people that I knew back when I worked at a Ren Faire (about 10 years after the Renaissance ended, I think ) took my initial idea and ran with it. They filled a giant wheelbarrow with props and called themselves "Commedia del'Carte". It sort of veered away from my original "Hit-and-run Commedia" idea over the years, but it was still fun to watch them do their thing.

So... I haven't asked yet -- which are your favorite characters?
