Alfred may act cool now, but I'm sure he wasn't thinking so highly of himself between the years of 1861 and 1865, the years of the American Civil War. I reflected the Hetalia character here as two seperate beings, one represting the Union (blue) and the Confederacy (grey). Had to wonder what was going through his mind as he held a war within himself.But, from the looks of it, though the war is over, he seems to be nursing wounds suffered greatly upon his Confederate counterpart, but, as the saying goes, they will be healed in time.
Background image is a Googled map of the South during the war. A keen eye might see a little something I added to it just because I could.

Love this! Especially how even though they are facing away from eachother, their hands are still clasped together. This speaks volumes. It kind of reminds me of that song "Another Side" by Sawyer Brown. [link]

But...but...The CSA wasn't evil. They had the right ideas. Well, besides slavery. Besides that, Ii would have totally supported them. Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those creepy "the South will rise again" people, but I would support them in the 1860s.

Of course he is depressed and glum. He has been defeated, yet since he is still a part of Alfred, is there really a winner? (Well, besides the obvious in the history timeline that the Union did defeat the Confederacy and bring the United States together as a whole again.)
